Tamarindo

Traveler Comments and Ratings for Tamarindo

"Young adults would enjoy Tamarindo, sportsman, couples, etc" Visited in Nov 2010

"Nothing to avoid, we didn't have a lot of time in Tamarindo; I think there would be more to explore there in terms of shopping and food. The beach was great, I think anyone could go here, it definitely was a more lively place to visit than Playa Hermosa." Visited in Nov 2010

"This year Tamarindo didn't have very many tourists at all, in 2010 the streets were full at night and all the clubs we packed. This year there was no one there, no live bands restaurants we empty. I was shocked that this town was not busier than it was. " Visited in Jan 2011

"Not many tourists when we were there but I could see that it probably is very touristy. Lots of youth with surfboards - not much of a nature lovers area that we could see. Not a place I would go back to." Visited in Jan 2011

"We loved Tamarindo. The restaurants, especially, Carolina's was perfection. I think Tamarindo is good for all times of people. (Restaurants really need to learn how to make proper Margarita though;-)" Visited in Dec 2010

"very tourist oriented. a lot of fun, but very americanized. good restaurants and clubs, not very relaxing." Visited in Jan 2011

"We loved Tamarindo and plan to return adn spend more time there the next time we visit. We felt, safe at all times, it was not too touristy, it was more rugged and interesting to see than Liberia, the locals were all so friendly, our overall experience was excellent and your guide was, as they ALL were, so nice to get to know. We would not have learned as much about CR w/o our personal drivers, either. They were a wealth of interesting, informative and important info. We would highly recommend you to anyone who was going to visit your beautiful, peaceful, interesting country, in which we fell in love with the people, nature and wildlife. You are more than welcome to use any of our comments in your advertising. Once again, one of the highlights was teh time we spent with the private drivers who took us to each destination. Their information was invaluable!! Thanks again, Royner! You mde our trip perfect!!! Paul and Starlee Carew - Ontario Canada." Visited in Jan 2011

"Very fun place !! But still Costa Rica feeling !" Visited in Apr 2011

"Beautiful. loved it wish we spent more time there." Visited in Apr 2011

"It is definitely worth it to walk around and explore the area. We found some great restaurants just by walking around and thanks to that, I ate the best mahi mahi fish tacos my mouth has ever tasted! There are also some unique jewelry boutiques. The locals are very friendly. Just be careful walking at night. There aren't many lights and some of the best places (like restaurants) are hidden in the middle of nowhere in the dark! Tamarindo is full of dirt roads and the architecture is not top of the line, but you'd be surprised once you walk into some of the places. It's a whole different look on the inside. Impressive! My words don't do Costa Rica justice! " Visited in Apr 2011

"I loved Tamarindo - the beach was great and I liked being right in the town so you could take a break from the sun and go shopping in the afternoon. The sunset was amazing and the many beachfront restaurants provided the outside dining experience those of us from the north are looking for in the winter. Not to mention the food in Costa Rica is really good - really fresh fruit and produce, good local fish and free range chicken and beef from the many farms in the interior of Costa Rica which we passed on our way to San Jose. "We ate at recommended restaurants, always trying for the "locals" spots. Our best discovery was suggested to us by a resort employee, who told us about "Frutas Tropicales", or FT's. Delicious food and wonderful staff, a great local meal source." Visited in May 2011

"This was definitely the most touristy of the locations we visited. Although, it would have been nice to experience a little more local feel, it was a beautiful place to visit. If somebody were coming to see the wildlife and forests of Costa Rica, this would not be a location I would recommend. However, if somebody were interested in visiting the beach, this would be a great place to visit. We were glad to have visited several locations during our visit to be able to experience a variety of environments." Visited in Mar 2012

"It's a beach community, so you definitely have a touristy aspect, but it's not bad." Visited in May 2011

"Tamarindo is a great beach city. Prices are high, but that is too be expected in a beach location. Both the locals and tourists were nice. Bring some bug spray!!" Visited in Jun 2011

"Tamarindo was safe. I would recommend to nature lovers and I did not think it was too touristy. Locals were great here!! Very friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time here!!" Visited in Jul 2011

"Tamarindo is definitely touristy, but still a fun place. We used it as a base for doing some day trips to other local beaches and a national park. Be prepared for lots of people selling things on the street and the beaches. " Visited in Jun 2011

"We walked the town day and night and never felt unsafe. Shops were excellent." Visited in Sep 2011

"We arrived on New Year's day and it was REALLY crowded, but then many people left. We recommend Carolina's for dinner. The Turtle tour was amazing; so was surfing. We had a great visit here!" Visited in Dec 2011

"We feel safe, a lot of tourists, nice ocean and beach!!!" Visited in Dec 2011

"I wouldnt suggest the are for nature lovers since all there is is a beach and some shops. This place is for people who want to be by the beach or in the water- unless you want to see turtles. We saw quite a few turtles including one that was laying eggs on a tour. The area felt pretty safe. It wasnt too touristy. The locals mostly tried to sell us things on the beach. The area was what I expected- just a place to sit by the beach. I would recommend to people to walk back away from the beach a little to try different restaurants." Visited in Jan 2012

"Tamarindo is such cool surf/beach town. The atmosphere there is so laid back and awesome!" Visited in Nov 2011
